No, political correctness isn't out of style,we need to be more conscience of the media's ignorant tactics that they use to destroy African Americans. The media has gotten very creative with exploiting us in a negative manner but the executives who our in control say: "Its just entertainment." We as a people have come to far to be setback by horrible images, The images that portrayed our President and First Lady were a disgrace to the Black Race and Everything we stand for as a people, A monkey was used to describe our President. That was Disrespectful and Offensive. When people in position try to distort our leaders and children. We have got to stand up and Say Something. Being Ouiet at the Wrong time can be Dangerous. Cultural sensitivity will always be important due to this countrys controversial and racy history as it pertains to colors, creeds, religions, and even the female gender. The cruel things that have been said and done in America can never be taken back. We will always have hate crimes and hate filled people who want to demean and degrade others no matter how blatant, subconcious, or inconspicuous they are in doing so. We must stand firm as rolemodels in our speech and behavior because for far too long America has been throwing rocks and hiding their hands.Who is to say what is genuine, only our actions and our speech can tell that tale.
My skin is thicker from what I have experienced but that does not mean that we relax the standards and allow foolishness to creep in again. When political correctness goes out of style so will our better judgement and the hurtful innuendos, graphics, and speech will most certainly replace it. As we strive for better foreign relations political correctness will remain of the essence. Far too many countries in the world already have a negative view of America and letting down our guard will only heighten this tension.
I find that concentrating heavily on political correctness ties our society into thinking we have separate names for separate groups. By that, I mean these specific terms are centering out those who are different and in turn is encouraging majority groups such as European-Americans to take notice and mark others as the government sees fit. Instead of saying, “Hello, my fellow American,” we look at a minority and think within our minds that because there is a certain label attached to them that they are different. This notion is complicated. As a majority, though they may not intend on grouping other minorities, the government has already placed a large name tag on the person that says, “Hello, my name is Rick and I am Queer.” By continually classifying or tagging groups of people from all backgrounds, or people of disability and so on, we are consistently aware that they are dissimilar. With difference becomes seclusion, and with seclusion becomes a form of hatred. Not everyone, but when some people are around others who are not culturally similar they tend to be uncomfortable and may use a form of hatred as a defense mechanism.
To be politically correct is to be polite? Or is it to be considered racist if you are not? For if I refer to someone as different, than automatically am I considered racist? Someone should start up a politically correct dot-com website to keep us in the loop whenever a name is changed. I think it will receive a great amount of ‘hits.’
Political correctness is really only out of control for white males. I have seen enough Black comedians spouting the most racial and offensive things and no backlash. White men have to watch everything they see or they are immediately a racist. It is really too bad because it is this mentality that will keep racism alive and well. I have experienced racism in my life as well. Even as a white male. I was car jacked by two black men when I was 23 and they made me very aware that I was white. This horrifying moment in my life did not change my view on people though. I am not and never will be a racist.
The concept that political correctness represents will never be out of "style" because the concept is about being sensitive and respectful of your fellow beings. The term "politically correct" is perhaps out of style and definitely problematic. To suggest that one speak or behave in a manner that is courteous and respectful of others simply because it is "politically correct" places common decency in the often insidious, self serving, disingenuous, manipulative, and opportunistic arena of politics. Words and their connotations matter.
